UPDATE: We are set for an 8:25 p.m. kickoff at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Utah's specialists are on the field, while Arizona State is going through its full complement of warmups.

SALT LAKE CITY — Everyone is going to have to wait a little while longer for a critical Big 12 showdown between the University of Utah and No. 21 Arizona State.

With thunderstorms rolling through the Wasatch Front Saturday evening ahead of the 8:20 p.m. kickoff, pregame festivities have been delayed, per the Utah athletic department.

Warmups were due to begin at 7:20 p.m., but with the weather, they will not start until at least 7:50 p.m.

There has been no definitive word on the status of kickoff, but it will likely get backed up given the pregame delay.

Per NCAA rules, play must be suspended when lighting is detected within an eight-mile radius of a playing venue.

Play cannot resume until 30 minutes have passed since the last lightning strike detected within the eight-mile radius.
