West Ham man personally persuaded Evan Ferguson to agree deal – sources

West Ham appointing Graham Potter was a big factor in Evan Ferguson joining the Irons, sources have told Football Insider.

The Republic of Ireland international has reunited with Potter at the London Stadium after joining from Brighton on a straight loan until the end of the season.

It is believed the West Ham boss, who only arrived on 9 January, personally persuaded Ferguson to make the move amid interest from a host of other Premier League sides.

The Irons do not have a buy option but Brighton will re-assess the striker’s future at the Amex Stadium after his return in the off-season.

Ferguson wants to play regular first-team football from now on to maximise his development and could put himself in the shop window with a strong run of form at West Ham.

Long-term admirers of the striker’s talents will keep an eye on his progress with Potter at the London Stadium.

Potter reunion helped West Ham land Ferguson deal

The ex-Brighton boss oversaw his development with the Seagulls and gave him his first-team debut in 2021.

Ferguson has made just 15 appearances across all competitions under Fabian Hurzeler this season, scoring once.

He is under contract on the south coast until June 2029 after signing his most recent extension in November 2023.

The forward could go straight into Potter’s starting eleven with Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug currently out injured.
