Lowest powerplay score in IPL

Powerplay in T20 cricket is designed to help batting teams maximise scoring in the first six overs with field restrictions in place.

However, some Indian Premier League (IPL) matches have seen it turn into a minefield for batting line-ups.

The IPL 2026 season produced one such collapse, with Delhi Capitals slumping to a mere 13/6 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru - the lowest powerplay score in IPL history in a full game.

Here’s the list of the lowest powerplay scores in IPL.

Lowest powerplay score in IPL

In the DC vs RCB IPl 2026 match, Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar shared the six overs between them to dismantle the Capitals’ batting order.

Hazlewood removed KL Rahul, Sameer Rizvi and Nitish Rana while conceding just eight runs. Bhuvneshwar was equally incisive, accounting for Sahil Parakh, Tristan Stubbs and Axar Patel for only five runs.

The duo reduced Delhi Capitals to 8/6 at one stage, effectively sealing the contest within the powerplay itself.

DC eventually folded for 75, one of the lowest IPL scores, surviving 16.3 overs. Royal Challengers Bengaluru went on to chase down the target in just 6.3 overs.

Delhi Capitals’ powerplay score of 13/6 eclipsed a 17-year-old record - first made by Rajasthan Royals, who had crawled to 14/2 against RCB in Cape Town in 2009.

Praveen Kumar bowled three overs for RCB against RR in 2009, giving away seven runs and picking up two wickets.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad matched the total in 2022, scoring 14/3 against the Rajasthan Royals. For the Royals, Prasidh Krishna took two wickets for just two runs in three overs inside the powerplay.
