Rohit hinted at leaving MI during the season. Speaking to Abhishek Nayar before a game between MI and Kolkata Knight Riders, Rohit told the KKR's coach: "Ek ek cheez change ho raha hai... . Woh unke upar hai, main ye sab pe dhyaan nahi deta. Jo bhi hai woh mera ghar hai bhai, woh temple jo hai na maine banwaya hai" (Everything is changing one by one. It depends on them, I don't care about that. Whatever it is, it's my home. It's a temple that I've built).

Rohit played as an Impact Player towards the end of the season, probably sending a message to management. During the season, the Indian Express reported that seniors questioned the team's functioning under Hardik's captaincy.

The MI captain singled out Tilak Varma after MI's defeat against Delhi Capitals. "When Axar Patel was bowling to a left-hander, the better option could have been to go after him. I think it was just a little game awareness that we missed out on. At the end of the day, that cost us the game," Hardik said.

It's sort of confirmed that MI won't change their captain for IPL 2025. They might also want Rohit to stay with them. Rohit is still the present Test and ODI captain of Team India and he might want captaincy. There will be a mega-auction before IPL 2025 and all eyes will be on Rohit's future with MI.
