Kylian Mbappe failed to repeat his heroics in the UEFA Super Cup as his LaLiga debut for ten-man Real Madrid ended in a disappointing draw.

Carlo Ancelotti's men were held to a 1-1 draw away at Mallorca on Sunday night to see the reigning champions drop two points in their Spanish top-flight opener.

But unlike against Atalanta in Warsaw midweek, which saw Mbappe open his account for Los Blancos, the Frenchman didn't have his shooting boots on this time.

Mbappe's failure to find the back of the net has seen him unable to mark his LaLiga debut with a goal - unlike Jude Bellingham last year.

The England international scored in each of his opening four league matches in the 2023/24 season.

However, he failed to be a threat in the final third against a resilient Mallorca side.

Real looked to be on course for a routine victory at Estadi Mallorca Son Moix following Rodryo's stunning 13th minute effort.

After being picked out by Brazilian compatriot Vinicus Jr in the box, the winger curled home an exquisite effort into the top right corner.

But Madrid couldn't build on their lead, with Vedat Muriqi heading home a deserved equaliser in the 53rd minute.

A delighted Muriqi said post-match: "Real Madrid are a fantastic team. I wish them the best.

"I used to watch them on TV, now I was able to score against them. I have nothing but respect for them."

But he and his Mallorca teammates will be disappointed they haven't walked away with all three points following two late chances missed.

Substitute Antonio Sanchez spurned two quickfire chances in the closing stages, where he failed to direct both efforts on target.

With time running out, Ferland Mendy lost his cool and was shown a straight red card for a petulant foul on in what proved to be the last action of the game.

The result means that Real have failed to win their opening league match of a campaign for the first time since their 0-0 draw with Real Sociedad in September 2020.

It took until the Gameweek Six for Real to drop their first points of the season last term.

Meanwhile, in the 2022/23 campaign, Real emerged victorious in their opening six league fixtures.

And across Ancelotti's two spells in charge of the club, it is the first time Real have won their opening game in six seasons under the Italian's tutelage.

Despite the result, the cult of Mbappe was still there for all to see as tennis legend Rafa Nadal was spotted making a beeline for him in the tunnel after the game.

The 22-time grand slam champion is a big Real Madrid fan and managed to get a shirt off the club's newest signing.

Speaking after the full-time whistle, a disappointed Ancelotti remarked: "We lacked balance. I am not happy with the draw because we could have done better.

"We needed more attitude. We can learn a lot from this game because it seems clear where we could have a problem."

Attention for Madrid will now turn towards their next encounter against Real Valladolid at the Bernabeu next week.
