Scottish Premiership side St Mirren have announced Shaun Rooney has left the club in the wake of being charged with an alleged assault and a breach of the peace.

The defender was suspended by the Paisley side as they vowed to "undertake a full investigation" into the incident which happened on 19 September in a Glasgow city centre takeaway. Rooney was subsequently charged with assaulting a woman and a breach of a peace offence on a man.

And St Mirren, in short statement, announced Rooney was out of the club. It read: "St Mirren football club can confirm that Shaun Rooney has left the club by mutual consent. The club will make no further comment."
