Canterbury Bulldogs vs Wests Tigers result, Jack Todd performance, contract

Bulldogs rookie Jack Todd has given coach Cameron Ciraldo plenty to think about after he starred in the side's trial match win over the Tigers.

Todd was first to score late in the first half at Jubilee Stadium, with his four-pointer coming only seconds after he arrived from the bench.

The lock showed his playmaking ability by dummying and beating the defence close to the line to break the deadlock after a sloppy start from both sides.

Two more tries came in the half with Tigers young gun Heath Mason scoring while winger Ratu Rinakama ensured the Bulldogs had a 10-6 lead at the break with his effort in the corner.

The Tigers came out of the sheds more fired up and hit the lead through a Solomona Faataape double.

In the 57th minute, Rinakama levelled proceedings by scoring in the corner again.

Canterbury's ability on the edges was on show again only moments later with Jonathan Sua diving over for his first try of the afternoon to make it 20-14.

The Bulldogs looked like they'd put the finishing touches on the match late when Ragarive Wavik crossed the line.

However, upon closer inspection, the Bunker revealed his foot was in touch.

The chance came off the work of Todd again, who beat the Tigers' defence on halfway and broke the line.

The 22-year-old then beat another three defenders before throwing a cut-out ball wide to Wavik who unfortunately couldn't finish it off.

"He's stepping like Benji Marshall," caller Andrew Voss said on Fox about Todd.

"The footwork from Todd, exceptional from the big man ... put the name down," Cooper Cronk added.

Todd's performance comes after he inked a new contract with the Bulldogs only four days ago, tying him down until the end of the 2026 season.
