Man Utd news: Michael Carrick's transfer wish denied as club owner intervenes in deal

Manchester United's summer transfer business has concluded and Michael Carrick has welcomed four new senior players to Old Trafford

Manchester United's first team has been bolstered by four new arrivals with the transfer window now firmly shut. Michael Carrick can now turn his attention to the weekend's clash with Everton.

After guiding his team to Champions League qualification last term, Carrick has been rewarded with a handful of new players to work with. United's midfield has been completely overhauled with Casemiro now gone. Andrey Santos was the first to arrive, signing from Chelsea for £50million.

Youri Tielemans' £35m Aston Villa release clause was activated after the free agent signing of ex-Leeds United goalkeeper Karl Darlow was secured. And finally, the club landed a marquee, long-term target as Carlos Baleba was signed from Brighton for £70m.

Now, having lost their Premier League opener against Hull City 2-0 and beaten Ipswich Town 5-2 last time out, Everton are up next for United on Sunday. However, one of Carrick's transfer wishes wasn't granted before the deadline, as Mirror Football brings you all the latest updates out of Old Trafford.

Michael Carrick's transfer wish

Speaking just before the deadline, Carrick was asked about more potential incomings and admitted: "You're always looking for more if you can do something else and make the most of the situation."

But United did not do any more business, meaning this wish for further additions was not granted. Regardless, Carrick appears relatively content with United's window overall.

"At the moment, the group's in a good place, and they want to fight for each other, which is important," he added. "I think the situation that we're in, I think the business that we've managed to do, I'm pleased with. I think we're a better group, a better squad, potentially a better team."

Leicester City owner's intervention

One deal the club seemed to be working to get over the line was the transfer of young Leicester City midfielder Louis Page. The 18-year-old was named the EFL Championship Apprentice of the Season last season and emerged as a target for United.

The club even pushed hard close to the deadline to snap him up, with a package of around £15m reportedly on offer. However, Leicester's owner, Aiyawatt' Khun Top' Srivaddhanaprabha, decided Page was not for sale.

"The owner was here today [and] we sat in the office and received a very big offer from Manchester United," Leicester manager Russell Martin said on Tuesday.

"Myself, Jon [Rudkin], James [McCarron] and the owner, Khun Top, sat in [the office] and he said no. So whatever's going on with the noise around the club and all that stuff, he was strong.

"He wanted the player to stay and be part of us. It would have been so easy for him to sell Louis and take a lot of money. But he didn't. It's a brilliant thing for us.

"Louis, you can see the level of quality and potential he possesses is amazing. He's really helped us since coming into the team. I'm really grateful that he's still here."
