Canadian tennis star Victoria Mboko defeated Mirra Andreeva Monday (23 March) at the 2026 Miami Open in the round of 16, 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-0.

The two-hour, 17-minute affair started with a razor-tight opening set that saw both Andreeva and Mboko saving break points. With neither player broken, the two went to a tiebreak where – in another close battle – Mboko narrowly took the set, 7-4.

In the second set, the pair again traded holds to 3-3.

In the sixth game of the set, it looked like there could be an opening for the Canadian. Andreeva faced two break points, serving at 15-40, but saved both to push the game to deuce before ultimately holding for a 4-3 lead.

Andreeva then called a medical timeout some 90 minutes into the match, going off court for several minutes to receive treatment.

She returned and, two games later, as Mboko served at 5-4, Andreeva pushed a tight game to deuce before earning break and set point. She capitalised, forcing a third set off an error from Mboko.

As the third set got underway, Mboko took control early – breaking Andreeva in the opening game for a 1-0 lead. She consolidated before breaking again to go up 3-0.

Unforced errors plagued Andreeva from there, and she quickly found herself in a 5-0 hole with Mboko serving for a place in the quarter-finals.

The No. 10 seed closed it out with a solid hold.
