Former Manchester United coach lands exciting new role after trophy-laden spellAdam Lawrence has landed a new role in football - just months after his departure from UnitedAdam Lawrence (right) won three trophies while manager of Manchester United under-18s (Image: 2024 Manchester United FC)Former Manchester United under-18s coach Adam Lawrence has been named as the new manager of Newcastle United's under-21s side.Lawrence chose to leave United at the end of last season in search of a new challenge after a period of real success within the club's academy.United's under-18s won three trophies during the 2023/24 season as Lawrence guided the young Reds to both the regional and national Premier League titles as well as the Premier League Cup.His departure from United was unrelated to the club-wide redundancies towards the end of last season and he simply wanted to take the next step in his career. As such, he will now make the step up to managing at under-21 level on Tyneside."It's a real privilege to join Newcastle United and to lead the Under-21s squad at such an exciting time for the Academy," Lawrence said after his appointment was confirmed."I've always believed in creating environments where young players can grow - not just as footballers, but as people - and that is something the Academy does very well."The club has a clear vision for development, and I'm looking forward to working with the staff and players to help each individual take the next step in their journey."Newcastle's Academy Director Steve Harper added: "We are delighted to welcome Adam to Newcastle United as new Under-21s Lead Coach."We have carried out a thorough recruitment process to ensure we find the right person to nurture and develop our young players, and in Adam, we have an outstanding young coach joining the club."His record speaks for itself but results only tell part of the story. Throughout his career, he has prioritised the individual development of the young players he has worked with, and he will play a key role in supporting our talent pathway into the first team."I'd also like to thank Robbie Stockdale and everyone connected with the Under-21s for their hard work and collaborative approach while we recruited into this position."Man United's 2025/26 Third Shirt This article contains affiliate links, we will receive a commission on any sales we generate from it.
