Michael Jordan among stars who pay tribute to Pep Guardiola at football manager's farewell party

Legends from different sports came together on Monday (25 May) as basketball great Michael Jordan paid tribute to Pep Guardiola during the football manager’s farewell party.

"I just wanted to congratulate you on an unbelievable career," Jordan said in a video message that was played in an indoor arena in Manchester in front of 19,000 fans.

"Enjoy your retirement. Good luck on the links and keep them straight. Congratulations," he added in reference to Guardiola’s passion for golf.

Manchester City's former captain and Beijing 2008 Olympian Vincent Kompany, another former club captain Fernandinho, as well as City's men's, women's and academy teams were among the attendees.

Earlier on Monday, thousands of fans lined the streets to celebrate Guardiola's career.

The Spaniard took the helm of the football club in 2016, leading Manchester City to 20 trophies, including six Premier League titles

"Thank you so much, I don't have enough gratitude," Guardiola said from the stage in a conversation with Oasis musician Noel Gallagher. "Always, for the rest of my life, I will have you in my heart."
