Pakistan Cricket Board considers axing Sarfaraz Khan and Shan Masood after Bangladesh Test defeats, Younis Khan and Muhammad Hafeez in talks for key roles. The Mohsin Naqvi-led Pakistan Cricket Board is mulling the axing of Test head coach Sarfaraz Khan and skipper Shan Masood after they suffered a 0-2 drubbing at the hands of Bangladesh in a two-Test series last month.Bangladesh have won each of their last four Tests against Pakistan across two series. They bagged a 2-0 win in the two-match series in Rawalpindi in 2024 before repeating the same result in the home series. As per a PTI report, the PCB has been in discussions with former players Younis Khan and Muhammad Hafeez, requesting them to take up key roles within the national team setup.“I can confirm that Younis Khan and Muhammad Hafeez have both had talks with PCB officials about joining the board in key positions. But things have yet to be finalised," a source said while speaking to PTI.The source added that advisors of Naqvi suggested a revamp in the Pakistan Test team set-up after the loss to Bangladesh.“There is a proposal to remove Sarfaraz as head coach and hand him back the responsibility of managing the national under-19 and A sides," the source said. The source added that Sarfaraz could only be removed once the board reaches an agreement with former captain Younis, who has set strict conditions for accepting any role. The source said that the PCB was considering replacing Masood as Test skipper, although he had requested more time to lead the team in the upcoming away series against West Indies and England.Pakistan’s first Test against the Windies begins on July 25 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.Hafeez is under consideration for the roles of chief selector and head of international cricket, though discussions with PCB officials are still at an early stage, according to the report.“In Hafeez’s case, there is a feeling that since the former player has been pretty critical about the team and board in media roping him in might create an impression he has been offered a position to stop his criticism," the source said.
