Who else should Barcelona sign this summer?

If rumours are to be believed, Athletic Club’s Nico Williams will soon be the next Barcelona player to be unveiled this summer, some 12 months after the Catalans originally showed their hand.

If, as expected, Barcelona can seal the deal, the addition of Williams would give Barca an even more fearsome frontline and would afford Hansi Flick more options in terms of his attacking.

Regardless of whether Deco and the board can get that one over the line, there are still more rumours swirling around concerning other players that could still arrive.

Let’s take a look:

Roony Bardghji

The 19-year-old Swedish wonder kid is making all sorts of ripples in the game and keeping the headline writers in the various forms of media busy. He currently seems to be the favourite to join Barcelona this summer.

Given that his contract with FC Copenhagen runs out at the end of the calendar year, Barca will get themselves a bargain - it’s been reported he will cost around €2.5m and Barcelona will have 15% of any future sale.

For those numbers, Bardghji will be an extra body for Flick to call upon and, even if it doesn’t work out, he could still follow in the footsteps of other players and still bring in a tidy sum if he moves on.

A player ostensibly for the future but who could rotate even now, it’s hard to argue against at least seeing what all the fuss is about.

Marcus Rashford

This rumour might soon die a death if Williams puts pen to paper, but in the meantime Rashford’s agent seems to be getting in the ear of all of the right people in order to be seen and heard.

It would appear to be the player himself making all of the noises at this stage, and he certainly seems pretty desperate to join Barcelona.

Signing the Manchester United outcast would certainly give Barca more options across the frontline, but an extortionate weekly salary surely all but rules this one out... unless the club can’t get the Williams deal over the line.

Ivan Perisic

The Croatian might be pushing 36 years of age, but as he showed in recent World Cup qualifiers, that left peg of his is still in brilliant working order.

The way that he caresses and feels the football is sublime, much like his delivery from wide areas.

Available on a free transfer, and seemingly eager to come, Barca would be getting undoubted talent and experience to complement that which already exists in the squad.

The sense is that Perisic could ‘do a Szczesny’ for Barcelona next season and shine in the very twilight of his career. It’s difficult to see it happening, but with Barca it’s perhaps always prudent never to rule anything out.
