Chiefs Injuries: Kareem Hunt is ‘ready to rock’ vs. Saints

Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt spoke to reporters at his locker Saturday, six days after he had 85 scrimmage yards in the team’s Week 4 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

“I feel like it was just like a fun day for me, getting back out there on the field — knocking off some of the rest and getting back to it,” said Hunt. “I guess it’s always a part of you — not playing for a while and coming back and playing, how you going to play. So I just went out there and just — to be myself, and I know what I’m good at doing and some of my weaknesses.”

Hunt joined the Chiefs a few weeks ago when the team had to place starting running back Isiah Pacheco on the Reserve/Injured list due to a fractured fibula. As he did last year, Hunt did his best to stay in shape to be ready when the call came.

“I was actually working out with my high school track coach, Matt Luck,” revealed Hunt. “Every day, I was going up to the high school, being around the kids over there, my high school football coach is working out trying to simulate drills to get ready to change direction.”

Hunt said he couldn’t describe how thrilled he was when that call came from the Chiefs, the club who drafted him in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Kansas City’s personnel staff liked what they saw in his workout, though they did want to give him a week of conditioning before he took the field

“They did a good job of working me,” said Hunt. “You can’t really train for actual pads and football stuff, so I had to just lock in and do extra running and do all that stuff, and it went well.”

Limited with a shoulder industry this week, Hunt still did not miss a practice, and he believes he will be “ready to rock” on Monday night. Now, he is simply ready to put a touchdown on the board.

“I’ve been thinking about that since I got here,” finished Hunt. “Honestly, I don’t know what I’m gonna do — but I’m gonna be excited.”
