Emile Heskey expects Trent Alexander-Arnold to sign a new deal and "continue his Liverpool fairytale". And the former Reds striker is also hopeful terms can be agreed with both Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, claiming: "It’s just a matter of time before they all sign new deals."

Alexander-Arnold, Salah and club captain Van Dijk can all speak to clubs outside of England about a pre-contract agreement from January 1, leading to much apprehension from a fanbase desperate not to see the star men walk away for nothing next summer.

Alexander-Arnold, in particular, has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, but Heskey, who won six trophies with the Reds between 2000 and 2004, has talked up his belief that the vice-captain will pen new terms with his boyhood club.

Heskey told 10bet: "I think that Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk should all be offered new deals. I'd expect Trent to sign a new one. Being a local lad, knowing what it means to play for the club and lift major trophies for the club that you’ve come up through the youth ranks for, that is a pretty powerful thing for a footballer.

"Trent has won it all with his boyhood club. He knows that he can fulfil all of his ambitions as a player at Liverpool – I hope that he continues his Liverpool fairytale, and I think that he will by signing a new contract.

"With Mo Salah, I think it all depends on what type of contract he’s looking for. Whatever his demands are, I’m guessing that they can be facilitated. The reality is, if Liverpool wanted to move him on or were happy to move him on, they would have sold him last season when they had absolutely massive offers for him from Saudi Arabia.

"I think there is a deal that can be structured for Salah that everyone can be happy with. I feel the same way about Virgil van Dijk. Both players seem to be very happy at the club and with the direction that everything is moving in. I think it’s just a matter of time before they all sign new deals."

Heskey added: "I’ve been very surprised at how quickly Arne Slot has adapted to life managing Liverpool. Being a realist and being a fan, I wondered what Slot was going to bring to the table. He didn’t arrive at Liverpool with a huge pedigree, but Liverpool fans were always going to give him a chance to show them what he could do.

"He's brought a different brand of football, which everyone seems to enjoy. Hats off to him for doing that and bringing his own philosophy and way of playing because it would have been very easy for Slot to try and replicate the brand of football that brought Jurgen Klopp so much success at Liverpool.

"Hats off to the players as well. It’s difficult to adjust to a new way of playing and new methods when you’ve been working with the same man and the same voice for nine seasons – it can take time to adjust – but that hasn’t been the case at all.

"Slot came in and you could tell that he had done his homework on the club, the city and the fans. He speaks the language of Liverpool and has endeared himself to the fans in a very short space of time. He deserves credit for that."
