Hull City player ratings vs Stoke City as Kasey Palmer inspires huge Tigers win

Three second half goals saw Hull City come from behind to beat Stoke City 3-1 to secure their first win under Tim Walter.

After a bright enough start, City conceded first yet again when Ben Wilmot slammed in a header from a corner, but having toiled, the Tigers drew level just after the hour when Kasey Palmer nodded in, having seen his penalty kick saved by Viktor Johansson.

Two quick-fire goals from Regan Slater and a Wilmot own goal turned things on their head for City, who sealed a second successive 3-1 success in the Potteries, and now Walter will hope this kick-starts their campaign.

Here's how Tigers reporter Barry Cooper rated the players in Staffordshire on Friday night...

Ivor Pandur: Didn't have a huge amount to do in truth, and what he did do, he did well. Had little hope with the power in Ben Wilmot's thumping header, but that aside, was well protected. Booked late on for taking an age over a goal-kick. 7/10

Cody Drameh: Drafted into the starting XI at the expense of Ryan Giles, having replaced him at half-time a week ago, and had his pocket picked inside a minute which led to the opening chance for the hosts. Recovered and was solid thereafter. 7/10

Sean McLoughlin: After a bit of a shaky start, grew into it and along with Jones, gave Stoke very little in front of goal. 7/10

Alfie Jones: Really good on the night, gave Stoke very little and protected Pandur brilliantly throughout. 7/10

Lewie Coyle: A real skipper's display of sheer grit and determination from Coyle. When the chips are down, there's nobody you'd rather have in your corner. Fine display. 7/10

Kasey Palmer: The Jamaica international was handed a first start in City's colours, bent a free-kick over the top after Drameh was decked by Koumas. Saw his penalty saved, but nodded in the rebound. Fashioned the third goal after never giving up. A terrific first start, just made things happen. 8/10

Oscar Zambrano: A return to the side after being dropped a week ago and showed plenty of promising signs as he looks to get to grips with English football, was forced off injured just before the hour. 6/10

Marvin Mehlem: A nice turn in the middle of the park drew a foul when City were looking to move quickly, but that aside, offered little. Don't see how he's a better option than Regan Slater. 5/10

Abdus Omur: Looked quite bright in the first half, and always provided an outlet playing from the left, which, we know isn't his preferred position. Withdrawn at the break for Liam Millar. 6/10

Mohamed Belloumi: Kept his place in the starting XI after last week, and had City's first game with an angled volley inches over the bar. Won the penalty for the crucial equaliser. 7/10

Chris Bedia: Looked lost in the first half, just could not get into the game at all. In fact, his half was summed up when he lost Ben Wilmot at the corner as he slammed in the opening goal. Missed a gilt-edged header before the penalty. 6/10

Subs:

Liam Millar (for Omur 46): Made a real difference when he came on at the break, creating two or three really good moments, not least wrestling the ball back for Slater's goal. Hugely positive display. 8/10

Regan Slater (for Mehlem 57): Just gets it, doesn't he? Slammed in a terrific second goal to give City the lead. Has to start next weekend after a display full of energy, passion and quality. 8/10

Xavier Simons (for Zambrano 57): Added real composure in the middle of the park when he came on along with Slater. 6.5/10

Fin Burns (for Palmer 83): Would have loved coming on a 3-1 up, especially after what happened a week ago. 6/10

Mason Burstow (for Bedia 90+5): Litle time, but good to get a runout albeit in the final couple of minutes. 6/10
