Pakistan women’s cricket team wins Asian Games bronze - Dawn

Pakistan’s women’s cricket team defeated Bangladesh by 31 runs and won bronze medals at the Asian Games in Nisshin, Japan. The Pakistani team scored 145 runs for eight wickets before restricting their opponents to 114 for seven wickets, Dawn reports.

Captain and bowler deliver decisive performances

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana scored 45 runs off 30 balls, hitting three fours and three sixes. After the team lost five wickets with the score at 67, she and Aliya Riaz added 67 runs off 43 balls. Riaz scored 25 runs off 22 balls.

Pakistan made a successful start to defending their total: Umm-e-Hani and Tasmia Rubab reduced Bangladesh to 20 runs for three wickets in the first five overs. Umm-e-Hani finished the match with figures of three wickets for 10 runs in four overs, including one wicket maiden. This was her best performance in Twenty20 internationals.

Sharmin Akhter remained unbeaten on 46 runs off 45 balls, while Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana scored 25. Their partnership added 47 runs for the fourth wicket, but the team failed to reach the target. Fatima Sana also dismissed Ritu Moni, taking her tally to 31 wickets in Twenty20 internationals in 2026.

Pakistan’s third medal

This award became the third for Pakistan’s women’s cricket team at the Asian Games. The team previously won gold in 2010 and 2014. In the bronze-medal match at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, Pakistan lost to Bangladesh.

On their way to the medal, Pakistan defeated Thailand by three wickets in the quarterfinals and lost to Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the semifinals. India won tournament gold after thrashing Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final — 216 for three wickets against 69.
