Farke shares what ‘unbelievable’ Guilavogui did ahead of Leeds clash v Swansea

Daniel Farke has revealed that a pre-match speech from Josuha Guilavogui inspired Leeds United to get over the line in the 4-3 win against Swansea City.

The Whites moved to the top of the Championship table on Sunday [24 November] after a 91st-minute winner courtesy of Wilfried Gnonto secured a monumental victory in South Wales.

And Farke believes Guilavogui’s words before kick-off helped the players battle to secure the three vital points.

As per the Yorkshire Evening Post [25 November], the German said: “Before the game Josh Guilavogui – an unbelievable lad – gave a speech to make sure everyone was really on it and he spoke about the importance of winning an away game.

“It tells you a lot if a new incoming who’s just been with us a few weeks and has never had a game in the starting line-up took the responsibility to be there with a little speech to inspire the lads.

Leeds United showing an elite mentality in Championship

It is exciting times for Leeds supporters, with Premier League promotion firmly in the sights after the win against Swansea.

The Whites have reached the Championship summit for the first time this term, having lost only once in their last 10 league outings.

Leeds are one of the most in-form sides in the division, with a Premier League-level squad to match; there is a growing feeling this will be the year top-flight football returns once again to West Yorkshire.

Ao Tanaka continued his stellar form with a “sensational performance” against Swansea, while Daniel James has been told he is “too good” for the second tier – there really is top-quality talent all over the pitch at Elland Road.

Guilavogui was a shrewd acquisition for Leeds. The Frenchman arrived to ease the void left by Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev in central midfield and is slowly becoming an integral member of the squad.

Had the match on Sunday proved to be a more resounding result for Farke, it would not have had the same effect – fighting against the odds with a late winner to secure the three points instils an overwhelming sense of belief in the players that they can overcome any obstacle.
