RTE commentator Hugh Cahill was praised by fans after paying tribute to John Cooney and Mikey O'Sullivan.Cahill was on duty for Ireland's Six Nations Championship win over Scotland on Sunday when he made the touching tribute.3 Jockey Michael O'Sullivan was left in critical condition after a horror fall3 Irish boxer John Cooney died after sustaining a brain injury after his ninth round defeat to Welshman Nathan Howells3 RTE Sport commentator Hugh Cahill Cahill paid tribute offered his condolences to Cooney's family before sending his well wishes to Mikey O'SullivanGalway boxer Cooney was rushed to Royal Victoria Hospital after his ninth round defeat to Welshman Nathan Howells in Belfast last Saturday.The Irish boxer underwent surgery to relieve pressure on his brain following the bout at the Ulster Hall but succumbed to the traumatic injury a week later.On arrival at the RVH it was discovered that Cooney had suffered an intracranial haemorrhage per a statement released by promoter Mark Dunlop on Monday afternoon.Cooney, 28, remained in ICU as he fought for his live but sadly passed away on Saturday.And speaking on RTE's broadcast alongside Donal Lenihan, Cahill offered his condolences to Cooney's family before sending his well wishes to Mikey O'Sullivan.Popular jockey O'Sullivan was left 'fighting' for his life after a horror fall.The 25-year-old rider was caught in the middle of a five-horse pile-up at the final fence in Thurles on Thursday.There was an initial delay of around an hour whilst the on-course medical team waited for the air ambulance to arrive, but officials later abandoned the remaining five races on the card.He was 'stabilised' on the track and later flown 74 miles away to Cork University Hospital.Legendary Jockey Ruby Walsh shared a snippet of insight into his condition during the opening moments of ITV's The Opening Show on Saturday morning.Former England star Simon Shaw had 'half his eye hanging out and teeth out his face' after sickening training ground accidentInitially presenter Oli Bell stated: "We are very much sending our prayers and love to Michael and his family."Irish legend Walsh took it up from there, adding: "He's in Cork University Hospital."He's fighting, breathing, very fit, very strong and he needs a bit of luck and hopefully he gets it."Fans echoed Hugh Cahill's comments on RTE as they praised the commentator for his words on social media.One posted: "Fair play to Hugh Cahill giving both Irish boxer John Cooney (who died after suffering a brain injury) and jockey Mikey O’Sullivan (currently fighting for his life after a heavy fall) a mention on comms there.Another said: "A very tough week for sport and puts it all in perspective."It's been a tough week for Irish sport after the passing Galway legend Michael Coleman, tennis great Matt Doyle and Dublin GAA icon Paddy Cullen.
