Super Eagles’ camp open March 24 for Jordan invitational tourney

Nigeria’s senior national team, the Super Eagles, are set to resume camp on March 24 ahead of the Four-Nation Invitational Tournament. The competition serves as a high-profile preparation window as the team navigates a complex period of coaching negotiations and legal battles.

Officials said the three-time African champions will utilize the March FIFA international window to face two World Cup-bound nations. All matches for the Super Eagles will take place at the 17,000-capacity Amman International Stadium against Iran and Jordan on March 27 and March 31respectively.

A senior team official confirmed the timeline to BSN Sports: “Everything is aligned with the FIFA window. Camp opens the day the window begins. The players and coaching staff will be on-site in Amman from March 24 through March 31.”

Despite intense speculation regarding a new 19-point contract proposal submitted to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), head coach Eric Chelle is expected to remain in charge for the duration of the Jordan trip. While negotiations—including a reported request for a salary increase to $130,000 monthly—are ongoing, the NFF has signaled its intent for Chelle to honor his current agreement as the team builds on its 2025 AFCON bronze-medal success.

The invitational comes at a time of significant uncertainty for Nigerian football. The NFF is currently awaiting a final ruling from FIFA regarding a petition filed against DR Congo.

Nigeria alleges that the Leopards fielded up to nine ineligible players during the 2026 World Cup playoff final in Morocco, which saw Nigeria fall 2–4 on penalties. Should FIFA rule in Nigeria’s favour, it could dramatically alter the team’s path and potentially reinstate them into the World Cup qualification cycle.
