Bears can win remaining T20 games - Gleeson

Paceman Richard Gleeson believes it would be ill-advised to bet against Warwickshire Bears winning all of their remaining T20 Blast matches and qualifying for the quarter-finals.

Warwickshire lost their first five T20 matches of the summer and propped up the Central and West group, with aspirations of advancing into the next stage at that point appearing remote.

The Bears have since knitted together three victories, most recently at Edgbaston on Wednesday when they secured a 76-run success over Sussex Sharks to maintain their slim hopes of progress.

Gleeson, who took 4-19 against Sussex, missed the beginning of the campaign because of overseas commitments but has since returned and made a substantial impact.

"We had a slow start," Gleeson told BBC Radio WM.

"Myself and [England Lions captain] Dan Mousley not being here was not ideal, but we have since shown what we can do - in this position we'll have to win every game.

"We might sneak in losing one, but the way we've been playing there's no reason why we can't go on a run and win every game.

"To get off to a winning start in this busy five days for us, to get off the mark in this little period, is brilliant. We need to recover well and then two more games to come in a short space of time before we can take a breath again."

The Bears have four matches remaining of their group phase, including a trip to Glamorgan on Friday before they welcome Gloucestershire on Sunday.

They are eight points behind second-placed Gloucestershire and four behind Glamorgan in third, with only the top two in the group guaranteed to go through.

"In T20 and short-form cricket, momentum is massive," Gleeson added.

"You can get into a rut and it seems to carry on, but when you start to win and things start to tick, it is easy to roll that momentum into games.

"It's a nice start to a very busy period. We'll have to go away, do our plans and prepare for Friday.

"Cardiff is a place I've not played much cricket. It's something we'll have to do our homework on and be ready to execute.

"They have had some good performances, so we are not expecting to go there and roll them over, but we are on a good run and hopefully we can keep it that way."
