Zverev makes surprise return to Germany's Davis Cup team

German tennis star Alexander Zverev is making a surprising return to Germany's Davis Cup team for the second qualifying round.

The French Open champion is part of the squad that team captain Michael Kohlmann has named on Friday for the match against Croatia on September 19-20.

With a win, Germany can qualify for the top eight finals in Bologna, Italy.

"Following Alexander's outstanding successes this year, I'm particularly pleased that he's once again part of our Davis Cup team," Kohlmann was quoted in a statement from the German Tennis Federation (DTB).

Zverev's wasn't necessarily expected to be called up, as the match will take place immediately after the US Open. He's one of the top favorites heading into the Grand Slam tournament in New York, with the men's final scheduled for September 13.
