The Blues have released a concept image of how the stadium could look next season when the women's team move in

Everton have released a concept image of how Goodison Park could look when the women's team move in next season after the landmark decision was announced on Tuesday.

On Sunday, the curtain will come down on senior men's football at the iconic venue when the Blues take on Southampton in the Premier League. Everton are set to move into a new facility at Bramley Moore dock next season, bringing an end to the team's 133-year link with Goodison.

The women's team will begin their own new chapter at the Old Lady in 2025-26 though. They currently play their home matches at Walton Hall Park and the move into Goodison represents a significant statement of intent from new owners The Friedkin Group.

On Thursday, Everton released designs that show how Goodison could look on a matchday moving forward from next season.

The images shows the lower tiers of the stadium full on all four sides, with the upper tiers covered in branding. In a statement, the Blues say the decision should help to "create an intimate, atmospheric arena."

"With Goodison Park now firmly secured as a permanent home for Everton Women, the stadium now stands not as a monument to the past — but a stage for the future," the bulletin continues. "It becomes the largest dedicated women's football stadium in England, with a proud legacy and an even brighter purpose."

The decision from Everton has been met with widespread positivity from across the football spectrum, while the current team captain Megan Finnegan has spoken of what a significant privilege it will be for the squad.

"To walk out at Goodison Park as our permanent home will be a real honour," she said. "It's where we belong — and we can't wait to create new memories there."

Everton's clash with Southampton will kick off on Sunday at 12 p.m. (BST), with supporters expected to welcome the players' coach to the stadium two hours before the match starts.

Everton Women finished in eighth place in the Women's Super League last season and will be hopeful of kicking on next term following the major announcement.
