Former Man United sporting director Dan Ashworth has reportedly landed a new role outside football, three months after leaving Old Trafford. The 53-year-old was abruptly axed by Man United in December, having been brought to the club from Newcastle United just five months earlier.Mail Sport revealed that the co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe had become frustrated at what was viewed as Ashworth’s indecision, particularly with regards a definitive plan regarding previous manager Erik ten Hag’s future and the Dutchman’s potential successor. The 159 days of Ashwotrth's employment cost Man United a staggering £4.1million, including his pay-off.Announcing his departure via the official club website, United released a brutal 41-word statement following the decision made by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Co.It read: 'Dan Ashworth will be leaving his role as Sporting Director of Manchester United by mutual agreement.Manchester United parted ways with Dan Ashworth just five months after he joinedMan United's bosses (pictured: part owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, left, and fellow Red Devils chief Sir Dave Brailsford, right) felt Ashworth lacked a clear vision over the club's head coach positionWarwickshire won their eighth County Championship in 2021 but finished seventh last year'We would like to thank Dan for his work and support during a transitional period for the club and wish him well for the future.'Last week, United’s financial results showed that interest payments on the Glazers’ leveraged takeover have now topped £1billion, while United owe £391m in transfer fees. With Old Trafford reeling from that financial position, Ashworth has already moved on to pastures new, according to The Times. The former Brighton technical director has taken an advisory role with Warwickshire County Cricket Club.He already has a relationship with Birmingham-based club, having joined their cricket audit committee in 2021.That honorary role involved oversight of what Warwickshire called their elite teams and high-performance structure.Warwickshire, who play at Edgbaston, are currently recruiting for performance director with an appointment imminent. However, there is little expectation of that role being handed to Ashworth - not least because of the discrepancy between the salaries in cricket and those in top-flight football. It is claimed that Ashworth will work in a freelance role and advise 'on a range of matters including high performance'.
