Liverpool news: Mohamed Salah sends transfer message as team-mate makes U-turn on Reds star

Liverpool fans will be waking up happy this Monday morning after the Reds extended their Premier League lead to 11 points.

Arne Slot's team made light work of a Manchester City side shorn of the injured Erling Haaland. Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai combined for both goals in a 2-0 win, each ending the match with one goal and one assist.

The result brought Liverpool one step closer to the title, with Slot's men taking full advantage after rivals Arsenal dropped points on Saturday. Salah is also closing in on the golden boot, moving six goals clear of his closest challenger.

Salah's future is one of the main talking points, with questions remaining over where he will be playing after this season. Here are Mirror Football's latest lines from around Anfield.

Salah's message

Mohamed Salah scored his 25th league goal of the season on Sunday, along with his 16th assist in the top flight. No one has come close to the Egyptian in either category, and he was left fielding questions about whether he's in the best form of his career.

"I don't know. It is opinion," Salah told Sky Sports. "Maybe people prefer my first seasons or now but I prefer now because winning the league, helping the young players, it is special."

Salah is out of contract at the end of the season, but his focus for now is on delivering on-field results rather than addressing things off the pitch. "We need another title," he added. "Me and the big guys in the team, we need another title."

Robertson hails team-mate

Andy Robertson was full of praise for "unbelievable" colleague Salah on Saturday, moments after joking he was tired of talking about the forward. "A set piece routine worked, which is pleasing. Everyone had a role to play and Mo got the glory of putting it in the back of the net," the Scottish international said.

"Another goal and assist. His work rate going back the other way was unbelievable today, him and Lucho [Diaz] and that was key to us keeping a clean sheet.

"He is on a different world right now and playing out of his skin. We are very happy to have him, that's for sure."

Szoboszlai's reaction to chants

Dominik Szoboszlai didn't want to get ahead of himself with regards to Liverpool's title charge, claiming he didn't hear fans' "we're going to win the league" chants. Liverpool can stay 11 points clear by matching Arsenal's result in midweek, but they're up against a Newcastle side who beat Nottingham Forest 4-3 on Sunday.

"I didn't hear it, I was so tired!" Szoboszlai said when asked about the chants. "We have to keep going and Newcastle is going to be a tough game and then 11 more games to go. It never ends so we have to keep calm and keep going and at the end hopefully, we will get there."

He added: "We played with two number 10s and they managed the game almost 90 per cent but at the end the result is for us and we are happy to take the three points home. We were defending 30 metres from our goal and we gave everything. It is part of the game. Sometimes you don't have the ball and we are happy to take the three points."
