Asian Games 2026 medal tally: India wins two silver medals

Asian Games 2026 in Japan’s Aichi-Nagoya saw India open its account on Sunday (September 20, 2026), with two silver medals at the women’s 10 m air rifle competition.

Elavenil Valarivan, one of India’s most accomplished rifle shooters, helped the country secure silver in the team event alongside Sonam Uttam Maskar and Vidarsa K. Vinod, before adding an individual silver later in the day.

The country is also assured of another medal after Suchika Tariyal advancing to the semifinals in the women’s traditional 60 KG weight category in mixed martial arts.

India is also in the women’s cricket final event with either a gold or silver medal assured.

A contingent of 501 Indian athletes, comprising 267 men and 234 women, is competing across 36 disciplines at the 2026 Asian Games. They aim to build on a historic performance at the Hangzhou Games, where India finished fourth behind China, Japan and South Korea with an impressive haul of 106 medals.

India’s campaign at this Quadrennial spectacle is led by some of the nation’s biggest sports icons, including Manu Bhaker, Mirabai Chanu, Lovlina Borgohain, P.V. Sindhu, Aman Sehrawat, Tajinderpal Singh Toor, Gulveer Singh, Harmanpreet Singh, Smriti Mandhana, and Jasprit Bumrah.
