Tributes are flooding in following the death of a former Cork hurler who has been described as a gentleman and a stalwart for his club.Today, Sarsfields GAA Club has paid their respects to the family of Ray Ryan following his unexpected passing. The 43-year-old was a central figure at the club, serving as the manager for their minor team.Ray had an impressive hurling career with Sars. In 2008, he was part of the team that won the Cork Senior Hurling Championship and the following year; he was called up to the intercounty squad, where he served as Cork's captain in the National Hurling League.Ray was a serving member of An Garda Síochána and was well-liked among Cork's wider GAA community. The Ryan family is heavily involved in the GAA locally, with his brother Pat managing Cork's senior hurlers.Sars shared the heartbreaking news on social media this afternoon, saying that Ray's passing left an 'immense void' at the club and the community in his native Glanmire.A spokesperson for the Sarsfield GAA said: "It is with heavy hearts that we at Sarsfields Hurling Club must share the heartbreaking news of the unexpected passing of our minor manager and club stalwart, Ray Ryan."His loss has left an immense void not only within our club but also within Glanmire Football Club and the wider Glanmire community."Our deepest condolences go out to Aishling, his beautiful children, the Ryan family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. Ray’s unwavering dedication and passion for the game, as well as his kindness and commitment to our club, will forever be remembered."Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis."The former Cork hurler is survived by his wife, Aishling, their three children and a wide circle of family and friends in the GAA community and beyond. Many have come forward to pay tribute to Ray and to share kind words and condolences with the Ryan family.One person said: "Deepest condolences to his family, Aishling and the kids. We have fond memories of Ray. RIP."Another person added: "Such sad news for Ray's family and the parish of Glanmire. Rest easy now, Ray. Such an energetic soul can never be diminished."Glanmire Football Club has also come forward to pay their respects to the Ryan family.A spokesperson said, "It is a terribly sad day for the parish. We are all shocked and saddened by Ray’s untimely passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all, Ray’s family, and colleagues. May he Rest In Peace."
