Williams, 44, will grace the courts at the All England Lawn Tennis Club to take on 20-year-old Maya Joint of Australia in her first singles match since the 2022 U.S. Open. That year, the tennis star fell to AjlaTomljanović in three sets (7-5, 7-6, 6-1) before taking a four-year hiatus.

She eventually had to withdraw from the competition when Mboko injured her knee in a singles match.

Williams then partnered with Karolina Muchova at the Berlin Open on June 16. She and Muchova lost in straight sets (6-4, 6-4) to Erin Routliffe and Giuliana Olmos, the same day the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion announced she would play doubles with sister, Venus Williams, at Wimbledon. On June 21, news broke that Williams was granted a wildcard to play Wimbledon singles as well.

"In general, my expectations are definitely different for the first time in my career," Williams said June 28 about her current Wimbledon journey. "Not that I never enjoyed it before because I wouldn't be here today, but I'm gonna enjoy being out there."
