Frank Leboeuf says Nottingham Forest have uncovered an ‘absolutely fantastic’ player, he knows him

Nottingham Forest claimed a share of the spoils against Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday as the unbeaten start continued away from the City Ground.

Forest tasted defeat against Fulham last weekend to lose for the first time this season but this was a positive way to bounce back.

The Reds played brilliantly well. Forest did a number on Chelsea to a certain degree and there were plenty of top performances on the day.

Chris Wood scored the Forest goal and got some praise from Ally McCoist. He’s now found the net four times this season and is closing in on Bryan Roy’s record as the top goalscorer for Forest in the Premier League era.

The international break will now take centre stage for the next two weeks. Forest have a number of players heading out and hopefully, the involved players can gain more confidence from the international fixtures.

Forest had a really top performer on the pitch yesterday. Matz Sels prompted Jeff Stelling to apologise to him on the radio – but another pundit isn’t surprised by this performance.

Frank Leboeuf raves about Forest standout Matz Sels

The French defender served Chelsea with distinction as a player and he’s now a pundit for ESPN.

After yesterday’s game, he was quizzed on the performance of Sels who Forest signed for £5 million from Strasbourg back in January.

MORE FOREST STORIES

Leboeuf was desperately impressed with Sels yesterday and shared the views of Joe Hart on Match of the Day.

He told ESPN: “I know Sels, he played for Strasbourg before. The guy is a great goalkeeper. He is a great catch for Nottingham Forest, and the saves that he made for Forest were absolutely fantastic.”

Sels the undoubted number one after Chelsea masterclass

Some fans have called for Sels to come out of the team in place of Carlos Miguel in recent weeks.

Things came to a head after the Brighton game when Sels was less than impressive with how he dealt with a Danny Welbeck free-kick.

However, Espirito Santo has stuck with the goalkeeper and in fairness, he’s not really made a complete howler yet akin to say Matt Turner when he was at the club.

Now, the 32-year-old has firmly announced himself as the number one goalkeeper at the City Ground.

Over the course of the season, Miguel will probably play some football but right now, he’s going to have to remain patient.

Sels has proved himself once and for all and the challenge for him now is to maintain a level of consistency across the season.
