Chelsea have Alex Scott offer rejected by Bournemouth

Bournemouth have rejected an offer from Chelsea for midfielder Alex Scott and expect him to stay at the club this summer.

Bournemouth sources briefed on the situation, speaking anonymously to protect relationships, indicated that Scott is expected to remain with the south coast side regardless of his contract situation.

The 22-year-old’s current deal is due to expire in 2028, with Bournemouth keen to tie him down to an extension, though Scott has rejected a contract offer from the club. Manchester United and Arsenal have also expressed an interest in the midfielder.

United have signed central midfielders Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos from Aston Villa and Chelsea respectively, but bringing in a third midfielder is still on the agenda following the summer departure of Casemiro as a free agent, but London clubs Arsenal and Chelsea are also monitoring Scott’s situation.

Scott featured in all but one of the team’s 38 Premier League games last season, scoring three goals and providing one assist as Bournemouth finished sixth in the table under Andoni Iraola, qualifying for the Europa League for the first time in the club’s history.

Iraola has since left the south-coast club for Liverpool, with former RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund coach Marco Rose appointed as his successor.

Scott has not yet been capped by England but was included in the squad — along with Rio Ngumoha, Josh King, Ethan Nwaneri and Jason Steele — for pre-World Cup friendlies against New Zealand and Costa Rica, and was on the bench for both games.

Born on the Channel Island of Guernsey, Scott began his career with Guernsey FC, then playing in the eighth tier of English football, before signing for Bristol City as a 16-year-old in 2020. He made his debut for the Championship side the following year and went on to feature 91 times for the club.

Bournemouth saw off competition from other clubs, including Wolverhampton Wanderers, to sign Scott in August 2023 for a fee believed to be in the region of £20million. He has recorded six goals and five assists in 89 appearances for the club.
