Man United's Alejandro Garnacho clause as Chelsea 'sanction transfer with price set'

Alejandro Garnacho's future at Chelsea remains far from certain less than 12 months on from the former Manchester United forward's move to Stamford Bridge

Manchester United could be handed a financial boost after an update on Alejandro Garnacho’s future at Chelsea. United sold Garnacho to the Londoners late last summer in a deal worth £40million, after the Argentina international expressed a desire to leave Old Trafford.

Since then, Garnacho has scored just eight goals for Chelsea during his time at Stamford Bridge, with just one of those coming in the Premier League, and his future in the capital is now uncertain following his debut campaign.

As a result, there is continued speculation about what the future could hold for Garnacho as the summer transfer window approaches.

According to The Sun, Chelsea are now open to letting Garnacho leave the club this summer on a permanent deal, just 12 months after he left United to make a move to the London club.

Garnacho was already set to face an uncertain future this summer with Chelsea having a new manager at the helm, with Xabi Alonso taking over on a permanent basis following Liam Rosenior’s departure back in April.

A separate report from journalist Simon Phillips has also claimed that Chelsea would look to receive £40million for the sale of Garnacho this summer, although it’s not stated which clubs could express an interest in signing the former United star.

United will be watching developments on Garnacho’s future closely, given they will receive a financial windfall if the forward goes on to leave Chelsea this summer.

As part of the £40million deal that United agreed with Chelsea last year, a 10 per cent sell-on clause was also included in the move.

As a result, United would receive a fraction of the fee that Chelsea accepted for Garnacho’s signature this summer, if a move for the Argentina international were to be agreed.

If Chelsea do manage to sell Garnacho for the reported £40million asking price, it could then see United receive an extra £4million this summer.

Former Chelsea star Wayne Bridge recently spoke about Garnacho’s time at Stamford Bridge so far and offered some advice to the former United forward.

"Sometimes I look at players with that much potential and wonder if they just need an old head or a father figure to work on the mental side,” Bridge told football.london earlier this month.

"I’m not saying that is definitely what he needs, but Glenn Hoddle did so much for me when I was young. He believed in me and had me doing visualisation techniques and meditation.

"At an event once, someone asked him who the best player he’d trained was, and he said that while I didn't believe how good I was, he got players around me to help me believe in myself.

"I don’t know if Garnacho needs a father figure to ensure he keeps his head straight and does the right things, but there is so much potential there. I think players sometimes just need guidance to ensure they keep heading in the right direction."
