Alfie Hewett completed a hat-trick of titles for Britain’s wheelchair tennis players at the Cajun Classic Super Series tournament in Baton Rouge on Sunday after beating Spain’s Martin de la Puente 6-0, 6-3 in the men’s singles final.

Hewett’s victory saw him pass the landmark of 10 career singles titles at Super Series level, the tier of wheelchair tournaments directly below Grand Slam, as he added to the men’s doubles title he’d already secured partnering Gordon Reid and the women’s doubles title won by fellow British No.1 Lucy Shuker.

Going into Sunday’s final world No.2 Hewett had won 23 of his 25 career matches against De le Puente and he maintained his dominance over the tournament second seed and world No.3.

Hewett took the opening set inside 30 minutes and won four of the last five games to wrap up his fifth Cajun Classic title since 2018 and his fourth Super Series title in Baton Rouge since 2018.

Hewett started the sixth and last day of competition with the news that he and Reid had been awarded a walkover ahead of their scheduled men’s doubles final against Spaniard Daniel Caverzaschi and Stephane Houdet of France.

This meant that the 22-time Grand Slam champions also completed a hat-trick of Cajun Classic doubles titles since 2023 and now have 13 career Super Series doubles titles.

Reid, whose singles challenge came to an end in a close three-set semi-final against De la Puente, said: “It’s not the way we would have wanted to win, we always want to play these finals and test ourselves against her bet teams, but it’s been another good week for us, We’ve performed well and come through some tough challenge and it’s good to keep the winning run going from Australia. ”

Shuker began the British title success on Friday after she partnered Aniek van Koot of the Netherlands to their eighth women’s doubles title as a partnership and their first Super Series title together.

Shuker and Van Koot’s 6-2, 7-6(1) victory over Japan’s Paris Paralympic doubles gold medallist Manami Tanaka and China’s Zhu Zhenzhen gave Shuker her sixth career doubles title at Super Series level.
