Liverpool told they only need to worry about ONE team in title race - and it's not Arsenal

Liverpool have been told the only team they have to worry about in the title race is themselves.

The Reds currently sit top of the Premier League, with a six-point lead over nearest challengers Arsenal. They last won the title in 2020 under Jurgen Klopp, though did finish as runners-up in 2022.

They have enjoyed a remarkable first season under Arne Slot, who replaced Klopp in the summer. The Reds also hold a game in hand over Arsenal, courtesy of their postponed Merseyside Derby against Everton.

And they have now been urged to forget about the Gunners and instead focus on themselves by former star John Aldridge. The ex-Republic of Ireland international won the title with Liverpool in 1988 and believes that his former side need to shut out the noise.

"It’s not about Arsenal, Man City or whoever in the title-race now - it’s about ourselves. People say to me, ‘Who are you worried about?’ I’m worried about Liverpool. Whether we go through a bad run or whatever," he told the Liverpool Echo.

"We don’t need to worry about Arsenal, only worry about ourselves. We just need to keep on going, keep on doing what we’re doing and try to get even better if we can, taking every game as it comes.

"If we win the game in hand and can beat Arsenal at home, they could go a long way to make sure we’re there at the end of the season. There are big games coming up, massive games. We know that."

Liverpool's title hopes were boosted by a 2-0 win at high-flying Bournemouth last Saturday. And boss Slot was delighted to see his side once again overcome a strong challenge to their title credentials.

"Almost every game feels like this for me. We've had so many of our games until the end exciting and there were a few moments already this season where it felt that we're just not on the right side," he said.

"All the points we've got until now I think we deserved them. I have said many times already the Chelsea game, that's under debate, and maybe this game we weren't unlucky, let's put it that way, but Fulham at home being 2-2 and getting chance after chance.

"United at home getting chance after chance at 2-2. Forest ending as a draw with us getting chance after chance in the end of the game. What I want from them and what they want from each other is that they fight in every single game from the first until the last second to get the maximum result.

"That's what the fans expect from them playing for this club. That's what we try to do in every single game and it's also necessary if you want to have any chance of a result in this league."
