In what comes as a shocking news, former England cricketer Geoffrey Boycott has been diagnosed with throat cancer for the second time in his life. The 83-year-old England veteran confirmed the development via statement. Boycott confirmed that he will go under the knife to get the cancer removed from his throat. Boycott acknowledged the challenges of being diagnosed with such deadly disease at this stage of life but remained optimistic about his recovery.

“In the last few weeks I have had an MRI Scan, CT Scan, a PET Scan and two biopsies and it has now been confirmed I have throat cancer and will require an operation. From past experience I realise that to overcome cancer a second time I will need excellent medical treatment and quite a bit of luck and even if the operation is successful every cancer patient knows they have to live with the possibility of it returning. So I will just get on with it and hope for the best,” as per a statement quoted by The Telegraph.

Boycott was first diagnosed with cancer in 2002 at the age of 62 and was given three months to live. At that point, he underwent intense chemotherapy sessions and emerged victorious over the deadly disease. Boycott in his book, 'The Corridor of Certainty' revealed that he would not have survived cancer without the support of his wife Rachael.

"Being given three months to live is a real show-stopper. I will never know why I am still alive. The only thing I really know for certain is that I would not have survived without my wife Rachael being there for me."

Boycott played 108 Test matches for England and scored over 8000 runs, including 22 hundreds. Overall, he scored an impressive 151 first-class centuries in a 25-year career. After retiring from cricket, Boycott became a part of the BBC's Test Match Special team before retiring in 2020.
