Brisbane Heat sign Tom Curran for 2026-27 season
Brisbane Heat have signed Tom Curran for the upcoming season of the Big Bash League. Curran, who has already played for Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Stars in the past, will be Heat's first overseas signing for the 2026-27 season.Even though he hasn't played for England in over five years now, Curran continues to feature predominantly in T20 leagues around the world givenhis ability to bowl and contribute with the bat lower down the order. Currently, he is playing in the inaugural ETPL and turned out for MI London in the Hundred.Having played close to 300 games in T20 cricket, Curran has a stunning strike rate of 145.89 in his career while he has also picked 297 wickets.The 31-year-old will bring a wealth of BBL experience to the Heat setup having played 52 games so far in the competition. Last season, representing the Stars, he registeredfigures of 4/10 - the best in his BBL career.“He’s fiercely competitive and from my experience coaching him at Delhi in the IPL, he lifts the other players around him through his energy, drive and focus.” Brisbane Heat coach James Hopes said. “I’ve been watching him in action last week for the Edinburgh team in the new Euro League where he has taken 10 wickets in four games so far, and I am sure he will enjoy bowling for us at the Gabba.“Batting wise, he is very similar to Mchael Neser in the way he can influence a game by managing the innings, either counter-attacking himself or getting the best out of his partner. Tom’s BBL experience with the Sixers and Stars is a bonus as he knows the Australian venues and conditions very well which will undoubtedly benefit our playing group.”
