Rajasthan captain Mahipal Lomror has been signed by Surrey for their final six matches of the 2026 County Championship.

Surrey will be without Will Jacks and Dan Lawrence, making space for the 26-year-old Lomror, who bats in the middle order for Rajasthan, and bowls left-arm spin. So far, Lomror has played 63 first-class matches, averaging 42.62 with an unbeaten triple-century to his name, as well as 62 wickets including a five-for.

At Surrey, he will join his Rajasthan teammate Rahul Chahar.

Speaking on his signing, Lomror said: “I’m happy to join Surrey for the remainder of the season. Playing in the County Championship is a huge opportunity for me to challenge myself in a new environment and learn from an experienced group.”

Last season, Lomror was the second-highest run-getter for Rajasthan in the Ranji Trophy, averaging 48.66 with two centuries.

The opportunity comes on the back of Lawrence’s recall to the England squad for the Pakistan Tests. Jacks, meanwhile, continues to recover from an ankle injury.

Alec Stewart, Surrey’s director of men’s cricket, said: “With the busy schedule of international, franchise and domestic cricket around the world, I’m pleased to add Mahipal Lomror to our available squad of players.”

“With the loss of Lawrence and Jacks’ ability to bowl spin, it was important to add a batter who can bowl some overs of spin when required for the final stage of the season. We look forward to welcoming him to the dressing room ahead of this week’s match with Nottinghamshire.”
