Shin and Kim to carry South Korea’s flag in Nagoya

Table tennis player Shin Yu-bin and rower Kim Dong-yong will carry South Korea’s flag at the opening ceremony of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in the Japanese city of Nagoya. According to Korea Herald, citing the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, the ceremony is scheduled for Saturday at the athletics stadium in Nagoya’s Mizuho Park.

Shin Yu-bin’s performance

The 22-year-old Shin Yu-bin will compete in women’s singles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles, as well as in the women’s team table tennis tournament. Together with her partner Lim Jong-hoon, she is ranked first in the world in mixed doubles. The duo won a bronze medal at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

At the 2023 Asian Games, Shin Yu-bin won four medals, including gold in women’s doubles.

Delegation lineup

The 35-year-old Kim Dong-yong has represented South Korea for 17 years. In Nagoya, he will compete in the men’s double sculls and quadruple sculls rowing events. He is considered a medal contender in the quadruple sculls event.

Archer Kim Woo-jin and shooter Lee Bo-na were appointed co-captains of the entire delegation. Kim Woo-jin has five Olympic gold medals, three Asian Games gold medals and ten world championship titles. Lee Bo-na, 45, is South Korea’s oldest athlete at these Games. She won two medals in trap shooting at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

Preliminary competitions have already begun in football, volleyball and basketball. South Korea will be represented by 1,051 athletes and team officials in 41 of the 43 Asian Games sports.
