Man United transfer talks 'in full swing' to complete deal before deadline

Manchester United are locked in transfer talks as they look to offload Joshua Zirkzee before the end of the transfer window with Juventus still keen on a move

Manchester United are in talks with Juventus over a deal for Joshua Zirkzee. The Dutchman, who joined the Reds from Bologna for £36.5million in 2024, is allowed to leave Old Trafford before Tuesday's 11pm deadline.

Reports had suggested that Fiorentina were close to agreeing a loan for Zirkzee, but the forward has since turned down the move with the Serie A side instead acting to bring in Beto from Everton.

It has left Zirkzee's future uncertain, though it appears he has been holding out for Juventus and is keen to join the Turin club before the transfer window closes. Indeed, according to Sky Sport Italy, United and Juve are locked in talks over a loan move for Zirkzee with negotiations said to be in 'full swing'.

Juventus have submitted a £2.1million loan offer, which would include a £25.6m buy option for the end of the season.

However, with United keen to secure a fee nearer to the amount they paid for Zirkzee two years ago, the Reds are attempting to move the buyout clause to be closer to £30m.

Zirkzee was an unused substitute in each of United's first two Premier League matches against Hull City and Ipswich Town, and has dropped down the pecking order. Matheus Cunha has started the season as United's first-choice centre forward with Benjamin Sesko coming off the bench.

Addressing Zirkzee's future after Sunday's win against Ipswich, United boss Michael Carrick said: "It's always difficult to say, to be honest, when there's so little time left, but we're always open if there's something else to be able to add.

"I wouldn't shut that down but, as it stands, we'll have to wait and see."

If Zirkzee does remain at United, he may be offered more first-team opportunities with the addition of Champions League football to the schedule.

But with Marcus Rashford's reintegration into the side and Shea Lacey's emergence into the senior set-up, he could be limited to cup appearances and off the bench cameos.

Juventus, meanwhile, are also looking at signing Nick Woltemade on loan from Newcastle United. The German is free to depart the Magpies with Yoane Wissa and William Osula starting the season well.
