PSG’s successful scouting mission to Ireland has first test tomorrow night

PSG have had a pretty smooth summer in terms of their squad – they moved a few players on and brought a few replacements in. When you've got the best starting XI in football, there's no need to change too much.

The big drama really came when the season kicked off. The Parisians were supposed to open their season with a home game against Rennes two weeks ago, but the poor condition of the Parc des Princes pitch meant a last minute reverse to play away in Brittany.

In the period since, PSG have put down a new pitch and have been desperately trying to get it ready for this Friday, when Monaco come to town.

L'Equipe have an interesting piece about the whole process. Head groundsman Jonathan Calderwood went to Ireland to pick the very best turf around, and has been getting it bedded in since the 25th of August when it was laid down.

"Despite the very short timeframe (seven days after the installation was completed), the teams at the capital club believe that this new pitch is ready to host a high-level match, without posing any danger to the players." the piece claims.

A player going down with an off the ball knee injury tomorrow night… it must be the worst nightmare of everyone working on that new pitch right now.
