Manchester United are preparing for a summer overhaul as the end of the season nears. The side's victory over Liverpool secured Champions League football and focus will shortly turn to reshaping their squad.

As Michael Carrick awaits confirmation of whether he will continue as United manager next term, a number of players could be shown the door this summer. With just three fixtures remaining, it's possible that some have already worn the shirt for the last time.

The transfer window will offer those on the periphery the chance to pursue opportunities elsewhere, as the United hierarchy concentrates on recruiting new talent. Here's a look at nine players who could be heading for the Old Trafford exit at the end of the campaign.

Marcus Rashford

The forward has been at the centre of transfer rumours since joining Barcelona on loan. The Catalan giants hold the option to sign him permanently for approximately £26million and Rashford has made no secret of his wish to remain at the Camp Nou.

Should Barcelona opt against making his transfer permanent, there will be no shortage of interested clubs for the England international, who has netted 13 goals and laid on 14 assists throughout his loan stint. While it remains a possibility that he could stay at United, it feels likely that Rashford is destined to finally cut ties with his boyhood club.

Manuel Ugarte

The midfielder has failed to deliver the expected impact since arriving from PSG in 2024. The 25-year-old ought to be the natural heir to Casemiro's position next season but has struggled to reproduce his best form in English football.

Ugarte has already been linked with a switch to AC Milan and would only slip further down the pecking order were he to remain at Old Trafford. He has started just eight league matches this campaign and could do with a fresh start elsewhere to breathe new life into his career.

Joshua Zirkzee

Joshua Zirkzee has failed to cement himself as a first-team regular throughout his two seasons at United. The Netherlands international has managed nine goals in 72 appearances and has watched several forwards leapfrog him in the pecking order.

The 25-year-old attracted interest during the January transfer window and has continued to struggle for playing time during Carrick's tenure. A return to Italy could prove the catalyst for the former Bologna man to rediscover his best form.

Altay Bayindir

The former Fenerbahce goalkeeper would have harboured ambitions of becoming United's number one. However, Senne Lammens' remarkable success has dealt a significant blow to those aspirations this season.

The 28-year-old has not appeared since Lammens was brought in from Royal Antwerp. While next season could present more chances for Bayindir, the seasoned goalkeeper may want to establish himself as first choice elsewhere.

Rasmus Hojlund

The young forward is poised to leave United permanently in the summer. Hojlund moved to Napoli on loan, who are obliged to sign him for £38m should the club qualify for the Champions League.

Antonio Conte's side sit second in Serie A and are eight points clear of fifth-placed Como, meaning qualification is practically assured with three matches remaining. The Denmark international, who sealed a big-money transfer to United in 2023, has netted 14 goals this campaign.

Jadon Sancho

The winger was a headline signing when arriving from Borussia Dortmund in 2021. Sancho has featured in just 81 matches for United and is currently on loan at Aston Villa, his third temporary stint away from the club.

He is due to become a free agent in the summer and has been linked with a move back to Dortmund. The 26-year-old excelled for the German outfit early in his career and briefly rejoined on loan in 2024.

Andre Onana

The former United number one is unlikely to reclaim his position next season. Lammens has excelled since being signed as Onana's replacement last year.

The Cameroon international has since impressed on loan at Trabzonspor as he attempts to revive his career. The former Ajax and Inter Milan man should not be lacking in suitors, given his extensive experience.

Tyrell Malacia

The full-back is due to depart United when his contract concludes this summer. The 26-year-old, who has been at Old Trafford since 2022, has made just two appearances this campaign.

Tom Heaton

The veteran goalkeeper is another whose deal expires at the end of the season. The 40-year-old has served as third-choice stopper since returning to United in 2021, last pulling on the gloves in February 2023.
