Nico Iamaleava injury update: Tennessee medical staff makes decision for UGA game, per report

Nico Iamaleava has been medically cleared to play against Georgia on Saturday night, per a report.

That comes via ESPN’s Chris Low, who said Iamaleava has “passed all protocols” since suffering a concussion in Tennessee’s win over Mississippi State last weekend. Iamaleava had been considered questionable this week.

Iamaleava passed all protocols and was cleared by the medical team to play against the Bulldogs. Vols were hopeful he could go after seeing him practice, but it’s always a medical decision. Big for Tennessee to get him back for such a crucial game. — Chris Low (@ClowESPN) November 16, 2024

This is massive news for a Tennessee team that’s hoping to pull off a big upset on Saturday vs. Georgia. The Vols only have 1 loss this season, but they may need to beat Georgia on the road in Week 12 in order to ensure a spot in the College Football Playoff.

A win over the Bulldogs would also put Tennessee in great position to earn a berth in the SEC Championship Game. Entering Week 12, Tennessee is 1 of 3 SEC teams with just a single conference loss this season. The other 2 teams, Texas and Texas A&M, will face off in Week 14.

Iamaleava has thrown for 1,879 yards and 11 touchdowns so far this season in his first year as Tennessee’s starter. He’s also averaging 8.5 yards per attempt, which ranks 4th amongst qualified SEC quarterbacks.

Kickoff vs. Georgia is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night in Athens.
