Zimbabwe have shown interest in hosting this year’s Women’s T20 World Cup that is originally scheduled to take place in Bangladesh from 3 October to 20 October. However, the tournament is likely to be shifted out of Bangladesh due to anti-government protests in the country which has raised questions regarding security.

As per a report in ESPNCricinfo, apart from Zimbabwe, the United Arab Emirates are also being considered as an alternative nation to host the marquee event. The BCCI confirmed a few days ago that India had pulled out of possibly hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup. India will host the Women’s ODI World Cup next year.

“Next year, we’ll host the 50-overs women’s World Cup. We do not want to give any signal that we want to host consecutive World Cups,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah told Times of India.

Zimbabwe had hosted the ICC ODI World Cup Qualifiers in 2018 and 2023. The last time Zimbabwe hosted a World Cup was in 2003, when the country were joint hosts along with South Africa and Kenya. Ever since, Zimbabwe have been predominantly absent from major international tournaments due to political and economic issues.

Zimbabwe’s women’s cricket team have not competed in a World Cup till date and won’t participate in the upcoming tournament should the country host. Zimbabwe are home to two major cricket stadiums— The Harare Sports Club in Harare and the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo. New floodlights have been installed at the Harare Sports Club.

Apart from these two venues, the Takashinga Sports Club and Blawayo Athletic Club hosted games of the 2023 ODI World Cup games that were live streamed. The other two stadiums hosted televised matches.

Zimbabwe are scheduled to host the 2026 Under-19 World Cup and are co-hosts of the 2027 ODI World Cup along with South Africa and Namibia.
