Mahajan Wins As No. 8 WashU Men's Tennis Falls at No. 3 Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill. – Playing its ninth match away from home, the No. 8 Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team suffered a 6-1 setback to No. 3 Chicago on Sunday afternoon at the XS Tennis Center in Chicago.

The Maroons needed a tiebreak at No. 2 doubles to take a 1-0 lead. Chicago picked up a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles before WashU answered with a 7-6 (5) victory at the top spot by senior Colin Fox and first-year Jeremy Sieben.

The Maroons then claimed the doubles point with a 7-6 (3) win at No. 2 to take the lead heading into singles.

Chicago went on to clinch the match with straight-set wins at Nos. 1 through 3 for a 4-0 lead.

Sophomore Avi Mahajan put the Bears on the board with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles. The Maroons then closed out the match with a straight-set win at No. 4 and a three-set win at No. 6.

WashU returns home on Monday, April 6, when Greenville visits the Tao Tennis Courts. First serve against the Panthers is scheduled for 4 p.m.
