AMHERST, MA (March 29, 2026) -- No. 2 Tufts University continued its strong run through New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play with a 6-1 victory over No. 18 Amherst College on Sunday, improving to 12-2 overall and 3-0 in conference action.The Jumbos set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the opening point.Tufts struck first at No. 3, where Kaetan Mehta and Stavros Mastrogamvrakis delivered a decisive 6-2 win. The point was clinched shortly after at No. 2 as Javier Gonzalez and Andrej Djokic earned a 7-5 victory in a competitive match-up. Alex Ganchev and Sacha Maes capped the sweep at the top spot, grinding out a 7-6 win to give Tufts momentum heading into singles play.Tufts has now won 70.7 percent of its doubles' matches this season.Amherst responded early in singles, taking the first match off the board at No. 3, but Tufts quickly regained control. At No. 2, Ganchev turned in a dominant performance, not dropping a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win to even the singles scoring and reestablish the Jumbos' advantage.Ganchev has won eight straight matches including a strong 5-0 mark at No. 2 singles.Tufts continued to build its lead as Maes earned a strong 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 5, showcasing consistency from the baseline. Bahl followed at No. 4 with a hard-fought 6-3, 7-5 win, fending off a late push from his opponent to secure the clinching point for the Jumbos.With the match decided, Tufts closed out the remaining contests in impressive fashion. Mastrogamvrakis battled back after dropping the first set to win 3-6, 6-0, 6-4 at No. 6, highlighting the team's depth and resilience.The final match on court came at No. 1, where Gonzalez outlasted his opponent in a thrilling three-set battle, prevailing 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 to cap the day.Tufts will now be idle until Saturday, April 4, when No. 4 Bowdoin College comes to Voute Courts for a big NESCAC battle in Medford at noon.
