Back in December 2018, Rohit had become a father for the first time during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, when Samaira was born. Amidst the developments in his personal life, it remains to be seen if Rohit makes himself available for the opening Test against Australia, starting November 22 at the Perth Stadium.

If Rohit stays unavailable, there’s a high chance that Jasprit Bumrah could lead them. Bumrah was the vice-captain for the Test series against New Zealand at home that India lost 0-3.

Here’s Rohit Sharma’s post on the arrival on his baby

Earlier, Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian men’s team, said that there is no confirmation on Rohit’s participation in the Perth Test. Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar had said that Rohit should give up captaincy for the entire series if he fails to make the cut for the series opener.

Former Australian captain Aaron Finch came to Rohit’s defence, saying that one also needs to focus on one’s personal life apart from commitments in a professional field.

"I disagree with Sunny on that totally. Rohit Sharma is the captain of the Indian cricket team. If you need to stay at home because your wife's going to have a baby that's such a beautiful moment and you take all the time that you need in that regard," Finch said on Around the Wicket show in ESPNcricinfo.

The Perth Test will be followed by the Day-Night Test at the Adelaide Oval from December 6 onwards after which Brisbane will host the third Test. The Boxing Day Test starts on December 26 with the New Year’s Test in Sydney to begin on January 3.
