Carlos Alcaraz has addressed his coach’s emotional reaction to his China Open triumph. Juan Carlos Ferrero was seen in tears as the world No. 2 lifted his fourth trophy of the year after beating Jannik Sinner in an epic final. Afterwards, Alcaraz confessed that he didn’t see Ferrero cry. But he knew why his mentor would have been so overwhelmed.

The 21-year-old defeated Sinner in a rollercoaster final after blowing leads in the first set and the last. After dropping the first three points of the decisive tiebreak, Alcaraz won seven in a row to clinch victory 6-7(6) 6-4 7-6(3). He roared in celebration while looking over to his team. And one prominent member immediately became emotional. Alcaraz’s long-time coach Ferrero cried as he watched his charge head to the net for the handshake. Alcaraz was later asked about his coach’s response and smiled. “Well, I didn't see him crying. That's a good thing to know, I guess,” he replied. “But yeah, I mean, it was a really special win for me, lifting this trophy in front of my team, part of my family. It was a great moment for me.

“I guess he got emotional at the end because we all know what we went through the last month or the last two months.
