Liverpool ace Alexis Mac Allister speaks out on model ex's lawsuit against him after split

Alexis Mac Allister has broken his silence on his ex-girlfriend Camila Mayan’s lawsuit against him.

Mac Allister, who Liverpool signed in June 2023 for £35million, separated from his girlfriend of five years towards the end of 2022, while he still played for Brighton and Hove Albion. The midfielder has accused Mayan of publicising their separation, which reportedly came days after the midfielder won the World Cup, led by Lionel Messi, in Qatar.

The model filed a lawsuit against Mac Allister, demanding financial compensation for the years they lived abroad together. She also accused him of keeping belongings and being unfaithful with Ailén Cova, his current partner.

Mac Allister, 25, has now spoken about the situation publicly ahead of Argentina’s World Cup Qualifier against Paraguay - two years after the break-up. “There was no more relationship,” The Reds star recently said from his car as he left a restaurant.

“She took her path, I took mine, and that’s it. As for the other thing (the lawsuit), everything is in court, where it should be, and we are waiting.” He added: “At the time we discussed what we needed to discuss, but it was clearly her decision, everything is fine and she is within her rights.”

In relation to the accusations, Mac Allister said: “I think it's normal in a relationship; she made the decision to come out and make public things that she felt or that she believes happened, but I know how things went and that's why I'm very calm.”

After their break-up, the former Brighton star began a relationship with Cova, his childhood friend with whom he is planning a future. “We are well, happy, building our life there in England, enjoying life together,” he revealed.

Mayan’s lawyer Ignacio Trimarco clarified this year what his client was requesting in court against the Liverpool ace, who has played 17 games for the Premier League and Champions League leaders this season. He said that, despite Mac Allister’s claims, his client did not want to publicise anything about their break-up and alleged it came from Mac Allister's side.

Trimarco explained on ‘Intrusos’ (América TV) at the end of July: "The mediation is closed, but there was no agreement. The lawsuit has been filed for some time and the case started more than a year and a half ago."

He assured that Camila never wanted the situation to become public: "From our side nothing was said; it became known from the other side because Camila does not want to publicise this situation. What she asks for is confidential like any family case, but it is financial compensation.

"In this case [the amount requested by Mayan] will be determined by a judge based on the evidence presented." That figure is usually calculated as a percentage of the income earned by the football player during the years he was with the model.

He added: "There is controversy with this law, but it is a law that has been passed by Congress and applies to all couples, whether they are with an idol like a world champion, or a businessman with business outside the country.

"This law has to do with protecting the weakest part of a couple that has not formalised a marriage. It is a law that applies and is in force and applies to anyone who has lived together for more than two years in a public, notorious and peaceful manner. Moreover, the claim has to be initiated within 6 months of the end of the relationship.”

Meanwhile, Silvina Riela, Mac Allister's mother, also shed light on the legal process by saying: "We are handling it in the best way. We have answered the lawsuit and everything is on track. Everything is on track as it should be in the courts, as she herself said.

"We are calm because we always deal with the truth and we believe in justice. Besides, we know that the laws are set up so that this progresses in a good way."

When asked if it bothered her that the issue had been covered so extensively in the media, Silvina replied: "It's part of the game. They are exposed and it's part of what you have to face or deal with. That's all. We have people who are with us, professionals, so we think it's going to go the best way.”

Mac Allister joined Brighton from South American side Argentinos Juniors for £7m in 2019 on a four-and-a-half-year deal. He has 34 caps for Argentina and played a key role in their Copa America triumph earlier this year.
