Mohamed Salah breaks PFA Player of the Year record as Liverpool dominate awards

Mohamed Salah has become the first player to be named PFA Player of the Year three times with six Liverpool players recognised

Mohamed Salah has been named PFA Player of the Year for a record-breaking third time after helping Liverpool romp to the Premier League title. Salah claimed the gong at a star-studded PFA Awards ceremony in Manchester on Tuesday night where the Reds' dominance of the top flight was also recognised in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.



Salah, who had previously won the honour in 2018 and 2022, scored 29 goals and provided 18 assists in 38 Premier League outings last season, and totalled 34 goals and 23 assists in all competitions.



Mark Hughes, Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Kevin De Bruyne are the only other players to have won the award multiple times.



Liverpool team-mate Alexis Mac Allister also made the six-strong shortlist for this year's accolade, along with wantaway Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, Chelsea's Cole Palmer and Declan Rice of Arsenal.

Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rodgers was named PFA Young Player of the Year ahead of new Liverpool signing Milos Kerkez, Liam Delap, Dean Huijsen, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri.

Olivia Smith won the PFA Women's Young Player of the Year for her season with Liverpool Women which earlier in the summer made her the most expensive transfer in women's football history when moving to Arsenal. Mariona Caldentey of the Gunners was named the PFA Women's Player of the Year.

Former England boss Sir Gareth Southgate and ex-Chelsea Women manager Emma Hayes were both the recipient of a PFA Merit Award.

Liverpool have four of last season's squad in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year for 2024/25, with Salah and Mac Allister joined by captain Virgil van Dijk and midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.

Kerkez, who has moved to Anfield from Bournemouth, is also in the line-up along with Isak, who continues to be linked with a big money transfer to the Reds.

The team is completed by Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels and striker Chris Wood along with Arsenal triumvirate William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes and Rice.
