India are set to take on Australia in a five-match Test Series for the coveted Border-Gavaskar Trophy, with the first match beginning at the Optus Stadium in Perth from November 22. There were reports that Rohit Sharma had high chances of misssing the match due to personal reasons. However, with the good news of the birth of his baby boy coming in, there are now high chances that the Indian captain would fly down to join the Indian team before the first Test. In what is added good news for Team India, the captain is not travelling alone, and is taking Mohammed Shami alongside him.

Mohammed Shami To Travel With Rohit Sharma

According to a report by Dainik Bhaskar, Mohammed Shami might travel with Rohit Sharma to Australia before the first Test at Perth. However, it is still not clear whether both of them will be included in the playing XI for the first match itself. Shami has not been included in the squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after he failed to recover in time from an injury which kept him out of action for nearly a year.

In a chat with Indian Express, Mohammed Shami's childhood coach Mohammed Badruddin had claimed that the star fast bowler will fly to Australia to join Team India after the second Test match at Adelaide.

“He will be joining the Indian team after the Adelaide (second) Test. Now that he is back, proved his fitness, picked up wickets, he will be crucial for the team in the second half of the tour,” Badruddin said.

Mohammed Shami Stars For Bengal In Return

Mohammed Shami returned to competitive cricket for the first time in 360 days as he played for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy 2024 match against Madhya Pradesh. He returned in style, as he ran through the Madhya Pradesh batting order . The star fast bowler picked up four crucial wickets. He took the important scalps of Shubham Sharma, Saransh Jain, Kumar Kartikeya and Kulwant Kejroliya. He finished with figures of 4/54 from 19 overs.

In the second innings too, he continued his form as he scalped three wickets. With the bat, Shami made a vital contribution of 37 from 36 balls in the second innings, in an innings that included 2 fours and 2 sixes.
