Alan Shearer says 'magnificent' Wolves star has actually been one of the players of the season

Wolves grabbed their second victory in a row on Saturday – and Alan Shearer has hailed one played as being one of the best of the season so far.

Gary O’Neil followed up the win over Southampton with a fantastic 4-1 victory at Craven Cottage.

Wolves fell behind, but showed great character – and it was yet another fantastic outing for Matheus Cunha.

The Brazilian grabbed two goals and an assist, and his form right now is giving Wolves a major chance – and potentially keeping O’Neil in a job.

Cunha was likened to Dennis Bergkamp for the way he scored his first goal on Saturday, and it’s clear that he will have a huge say in what happens with Wolves this season.

He’s come in for plenty of plaudits and rightly so, and Alan Shearer is the latest to lavish praises on the South American.

Cunha has been central to Wolves moving out of the relegation zone with his contributions in recent weeks.

The star scored a late equaliser against Brighton to give Wolves a point and since then, things have looked up for Wolves.

MORE WOLVES STORIES

Dave Edwards recently said Cunha’s display against Southampton was one of the best he’s seen from a Wolves player, but he may well have played even better against Fulham.

Alan Shearer was left extremely impressed by the Wolves number 10 on the latest Rest Is Football podcast, and said: “He was unbelievable again.

“The goal he scored, the one he bent in the top corner was an unbelievable finish. He was superb, Gary O’Neil had to talk about him again after the game, there’s no doubt he’s getting the best out of him.

“He’s been one of the players of the season up to now, he’s been magnificent as he was again (vs Fulham).”

Cunha is thriving

Wolves fans are finally having something to cheer about after such a difficult first couple of months of the season.

The club is now out of the relegation zone, and that will surely give the players such a big boost moving forward.

And they must all be delighted to see Cunha in such brilliant form. The star has been a breath of fresh air this season, even when Wolves have been struggling.

The South American stands to play a major part for Wolves this season and keeping him fit will be key.

If he can play the bulk of the games, Wolves surely won’t have any relegation worries come the end of the season.
